Más de 16 millones de peruanos padecen inseguridad alimentaria
Informó Igor Garafulic Olivares, coordinador de las Naciones Unidas en el Perú, durante presentación del 33. Encuentro Empresarial del Norte.
El coordinador residente del Sistema de las Naciones Unidas en el Perú, Igor Garafulic Olivares, señaló durante la primera conferencia del 33. ° Encuentro Empresarial del Norte que más de 16,6 millones de peruanos viven en inseguridad alimentaria moderada o severa, lo que significa el doble de lo que registraba antes de la pandemia según información oficial de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y la Agricultura -FAO (por sus siglas en inglés).
“En el caso de la anemia, 40% de los niños entre 6 y 36 meses padece de anemia colocando al Perú como el país con la MAYOR prevalencia en la región. La prevalencia de anemia infantil en el quintil más pobre es más del doble (50,5%) que la del quintil más rico (22,8%)”, agregó durante su exposición Análisis de la coyuntura internacional y sus repercusiones económicas y sociales para América Latina y el Caribe (ALC).

En nuestro país, tras dos años con las aulas cerradas se ha registrado una pérdida de aprendizajes que el Banco Mundial estima un retroceso equivalente a 10 años. Mientras que América Latina y el Caribe sufrieron el ‘apagón educativo’ más prolongado a nivel internacional, la interrupción de educación presencial duró en promedio 70 semanas en ALC y fue la más prolongada de todas las regiones del mundo, anotó Garafulic.
Al respecto, Francisco Huerta, aliado técnico del evento empresarial y presidente del Instituto de Economía y Empresa, enfatizó que hay crisis nivel global y que las perspectivas no son positivas.
“Hay que desarrollar un enfoque territorial para aprovechar las potencialidades y avanzar a un crecimiento sostenible. Debemos desarrollar diálogos público privados con soluciones innovadoras. La agenda 2030 debería ser nuestra hoja de ruta. En los últimos 32 años, por primera vez el índice de desarrollo humano (IDH) ha disminuido en dos años seguidos. Persisten impactos negativos de la pandemia que serán a mediano y largo plazo”, dijo.
Sobre la pandemia del COVID-19, el experto de las Naciones Unidas agregó que, hasta ahora, ha costado la vida de 15 millones de personas en todo el mundo y provocó un aumento de la incidencia de la pobreza entre niños y adolescentes del 28,3% al 40,5% principalmente en las zonas urbanas de América Latina y el Caribe.
El coordinador de las Naciones Unidas también explicó que la pobreza monetaria en el Perú se situaba en 25,9% para el 2021, 4,2 puntos menos que en el 2020 pero aún mayor que prepandemia con el 20,2%. La pobreza monetaria afectó al 39,7% de la población de área rural y al 22,3% de la población del área urbana.

El cierre del día estuvo a cargo de Eduardo Torres Llosa Villacorta, gerente general del Banco Central de Reserva del Perú quien disertó sobre la Coyuntura económica nacional y las proyecciones macroeconómicas para el 2023.
