Igor Garafulic es Coordinador Residente del Sistema de las Naciones Unidas en el Perú desde el 7 de octubre de 2019.
Anteriormente se desempeñó como Coordinador Residente de la ONU en Honduras y como Director de País del PNUD en Guatemala desde abril de 2014 a enero de 2018. Asimismo, en 2010 fue Asesor Principal para la Oficina Regional de América Latina y el Caribe del PNUD.
Chileno de nacimiento, Igor Garafulic es Ingeniero Comercial (Economista) por la Universidad de Chile y obtuvo un Máster en Políticas Públicas por la Universidad de Oxford en Gran Bretaña.
Tiene una larga trayectoria como economista en su país. Integró los equipos de negociación de los Tratados de Libre Comercio suscritos por Chile. Fue el Jefe de Negociación Agrícola con Japón, Corea y China además de Director de Asuntos Económicos Multilaterales de la Dirección
General Económica (Direcon) del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de Chile (2006-2008), desde donde lideró las posturas de su país en la Organización Mundial de Comercio (OMC) y en
el Foro de Cooperación de Asia Pacífico (APEC).
Fue Intendente de Santiago (Gobernador de la Región Metropolitana de Santiago) entre 2008 y 2010, con responsabilidad directa por los temas de infraestructura, inversión regional y seguridad para la ciudad capital.
Además del español, habla inglés, sueco y portugués.
